“Wings” by Jonas Brothers

Jonas Brothers, a sibling pop act from New Jersey, has had their ups and downs, such as being on hiatus for a better part of the 2010s.  Also it’s been a relatively long time since they’ve dropped a studio album, which was the platinum-selling “Happiness Begins” (2019), and their last single prior this one, a song dubbed “Who’s in Your Head”, came out in 2021.

You can view the lyrics, alternate interprations and sheet music for Jonas Brothers's Wings at Lyrics.org.

But now the bros are back at it with an upcoming LP simply titled “The Album”, a project that’s being put out circa mid-2023 via Republic Records.  A couple of months earlier, on February 24th, the public was officially served the lead single from that joint, which is “Wings”.

THE TEAM BEHIND THE SONG

Joe Jonas in particular began teasing this song about a month prior to its release. In the process, he stated that it “might be the shortest song on the album”, which is in fact the case, as this track is under two minutes in length.

Alongside his brothers, Nick and Kevin, Joe is credited with co-writing this song. Its other writers are the track’s producers:

  • Jon Bellion
  • Tenroc
  • Pete Nappi
  • The Monsters and Strangerz (Jordan K. Johnson and Stefan Johnson)

In addition to the above, Jordan Cohen and Clyde Lawrence are also credited as writers of “Wings”. And lastly, the final producer of “Wings” is an artist known as The Diner.

Meanwhile, its music video stars award-winning Hollywood actress Haley Lu Richardson, who is actually a long-standing Jonas Brothers’ fan.

“WINGS”, A LOVE SONG

This is a love song and, in sentiment, a pretty-standard one at that. For example, we find the vocalist making statements like his “life… never had a meaning” – that is until, of course, he hooked up with the addressee, who is presumably his sweetheart (though such is never explicitly stated).

And likewise the title of the track, most simply explained, acts as a metaphor pointing to how she has holistically edified him, which again is the main theme that the lyrics are based on.

Wings, as noted earlier, is also pretty terse and, shall we say, straight to the point. And considering that half of the tracks on “The Album” are within the 2-minute range, perhaps we are looking forward to more direct-to-the-point outings such as this one.

“You are the one, the sun, the light of day
You are the wings I need to fly away”
