This song captures the pledges of two young lovers to stick together, amidst pessimism from people around.    

Sonny and Cher in this song are convinced that all they need is each other to make things work, however, the reaction of the people around is that they’re too young and inexperienced to know that love does not last easily. While others believe that their love may not survive when there are material needs, the singers assure each other that once they stick to their vows, their love will stand every test. The singers are confident that they can overcome the usual challenges in relationships through understanding, keeping each other company and being there through thick and thin.

Speaking to Billboard Magazine, Cher revealed that she didn’t think much of the song when Sonny was coming up with the song.
