“LA FINE” by Måneskin

“LA FINE” is a song which, in a way, presents more questions than it does a solid conclusion. It is existential in nature, with the vocalist questioning the meaning of life, in a manner of interpretation. But throughout his mission, which he has now been on for a year, he doesn’t appear to have come to any type of satisfactory or decisive understanding in that regard.

Verse 1

As depicted the vocalist comes off as a bum. He presents himself as a person traveling from place to place and living in hardship, to the extent that he likens himself to “a madman” and admits that people call him “a bastard”. However, it’s pretty obvious that he isn’t crazy. Instead he has taken this vow of poverty (which may be what the title alludes to), if you will. He is doing this in in an apparent attempt to make better sense of the world.

Or viewed from a different angle, the life he was living beforehand was less than satisfactory. In fact, he’s still carrying some of the associated mental/emotional baggage. So it’s not as if he’s compelled to go back home, so to speak. Instead, his disposition is along the lines of being willing to accept the sufferings of being a vagabond as a necessary step in the name of achieving true personal development.

Verse 2

The second verse continues to operate along the established theme of the vocalist being someone who is resultantly persecuted. In other words, his above-noted lifestyle choice has led to people unfairly judging him.

That said, he doesn’t appear overly concerned with how they think since he is not a worldly person.  Moreover, it’s as if they revered him at first and then flipped their tune. He is confident in his innocence, being convinced that, after they’ve finished doing him dirty, later on the masses will realize they made a mistake.

Thesis Sentiment of “LA FINE”

The bridge can perhaps be taken as containing the thesis sentiment of this song. But again, it’s far from actually being conclusive. In this passage, the vocalist appears to have reached a point where being treated as highlighted above has discouraged him from continuing his journey. But concurrently, he comes off as if he perceives the indispensable value of forging ahead nonetheless. And he also goes on to state that if he doesn’t receive love from others in the process, then “it won’t matter”.

In Conclusion

So our own conclusion is that this song is intended to depict the vocalist as being akin to a prophet/martyr. Måneskin is sort of this countercultural act, and it may be this piece serves as an elaborate analogy of what they have gone through in recent times.

It should also be noted that we are analyzing this song’s lyrics via an English translation as opposed to its original language (Italian). So maybe some clarity got lost along the way. But that noted, our best way of making sense out of all that’s being put forth is by concluding that the vocalist is on a mission, albeit one who’s goal he may not be able to clearly define.

Also, it may be that he has not made any palpable progress or is currently unable to actually perceive the endpoint of his journey.
