“HONEY (ARE U COMING?)” by Måneskin
Sony Music Italy and Epic Records released “HONEY (ARE U COMING?)” on 1 September 2023, with it not being associated with any larger project. However, to note, Måneskin did drop an album (via those same labels) earlier in the year titled “Rush!”, which proved to be a chart topper in a handful of countries, including the band’s homeland of Italy.
Måneskin members Damiano David, Thomas Raggi, Ethan Torchio and Victoria De Angelis wrote this song alongside its producers, Sly & Rami, in addition to Cleo Tighe and Jussifer.
The Lyrics of “HONEY (ARE U COMING?)”
It’s obvious that this is a love song, one of those types in which the vocalist is inviting the addressee to partake of his love, i.e. be part of his world (as implied by the track’s subtitled).
As illustrated in the first verse, it does look like that singer is literally asking the addressee out. But more to the point would be Damiano trying to convince the other party that they two of them may be able to strike up a meaningful romance. Relatedly, secondly and to a lesser degree, the lyrics serve the purpose of the vocalist admiring his “babe”.
That said, Måneskin didn’t necessarily explain this song as being based on romance. For instance, Damiano, in describing it, focused more on the adventurism aspect, and Victoria alluded to it being inspired by the band’s travels.
Also, going back to David’s explanation, he implied that the meaning is more or less up to the listener to interpret. But the lyrics themselves don’t really challenge the imagination to conclude that Honey is anything but a love song.
