“Magic” by Kylie Minogue

The lyrics of Kylie Minogue’s “Magic” have a romantic undertone. The track reads like one of those types of songs in which the singer is encouraging the addressee, a romantic interest, to give in to his feelings for her in a carefree way. But it is that particular sentiment, carefreeness, which is meant to lie at the sentimental center of the tune. For instance, in addressing her sweetheart, Minogue also puts forth a philosophy akin to not worrying about tomorrow. As such, analysts of Magic have marked it more as an uplifting dance tune rather than a love song. And indeed that was the singer’s goal from the beginning. Her goal was to relay a party-like feeling which a listener can appreciate even if he or she is alone.

Music vet Kylie Minogue came out with this track as the second single from her 15th studio album, Disco, on 24th September 2020. And the tune also serves as the opening track on the album.

The music video to this song was filmed in London at a nightclub called Fabric. The nightclub in question opened its door (amidst COVID lockdowns) specifically for the purpose of accommodating Minogue. And the visual was helmed by Sophie Muller, the same director who did the music video for the first single from Disco titled Say Something.

This song was produced by Teemu Brunila and a musical duo known as PhD (Peter Wallevik and Daniel Davidsen). And the three of them also co-wrote it alongside Michelle Buzz.

Magic charted in a few countries, including the UK, Scotland and of course Kylie Minogue’s homeland of Australia.

The record labels that put this song out are BMG and Darenote, the latter being Kylie Minogue’s own company.
