“Monster” by Shawn Mendes & Justin Bieber

Justin Bieber and Shawn Mendes are two individuals who have grown up under the celebrity spotlight. And that reality of always being judged by the public accordingly is what the song “Monster” is premised on. And the title,” monster”, points to how people tend to perceive figures such as these when they “trip” or “fall”, i.e. make a mistake. But ultimately, as Mendes has pointed out, the track is not about succumbing to an unrealistic perception of perfection due to external pressure. Rather we as individuals have the tendency to adopt such ideologies and place such stress upon ourselves. And to Shawn this track represents him coming to realization and acceptance that certain personal errors are a normal part of life.

The release of this track marks a joint effort between record labels Def Jam and Island. It officially came out on 20 November 2020. And it is the second single from Shawn Mendes’ sophomore album, Wonder.

Clues of this song’s forthcoming have been circulating since July 2020. And it was confirmed on 29 September 2020 by Shawn Mendes.

Colin Tilley directed the music video tot his track, which was shot only once.

This is the first time music stars Shawn and Bieber have collaborated. However, they have sort of a shared history in that Mendes used to date Justin’s wife, Hailey Baldwin, before she and the Biebs got married.
