“Wonder” by Shawn Mendes

Although it has been put forth that Shawn Mendes’ “Wonder” is based on his relationship with fellow pop singer Camila Cabello, logically speaking that theory doesn’t make much sense. Yes, it is pretty obvious that the singer is indeed crooning to a romantic interest.  However, the main thing he is ‘wondering’ about in the lyrics is “what it’s like to be loved by” her. 

So the connotation is that the addressee is someone whom the singer is not yet romantically involved with. But even outside of that, Shawn tackles some general queries concerning his life, such as how his friends perceive him and reflections on his perception of manhood.

This is the title track and lead single from Shawn Mendes’ fourth studio project. The song itself was released by Island Records on 2 October 2020.

“Wonder” holds the distinction of being the first single Shawn released in the year 2020. This followed his 2019 mega hit song with Camila Cabello titled “Señorita“. That being said, it should be mentioned that both songs don’t appear on the same album. “Señorita” was from Shawn’s self-titled album of 2019.
