“One Last Time” by LP

Even though LP may not look the part, it is clear when going through the songs on “Churches” that she is akin to a hopeless romantic. And even though the verses of “One Last Time” are a bit overly ambiguous, it is clear by the chorus and outro that premise-wise, this song is based on a dissolved romance.

And whereas it does not necessarily read as if the vocalist is trying to get back with the addressee, she is expressing a grievance that their relationship has in fact fallen apart. Additionally, she is fantasizing about how she would convincingly express her love to the addressee if she were only granted “one last time” with her ex.

It should also be noted that even though the album this song is featured on is entitled “Churches”, “One Last Time” is the first song, six tracks’ deep into the project’s playlist, that features any type of religious references.

In the first verse LP states that she is “search(ing) for something holy”, and in the second she makes a comparison between a love lost and “hang(ing) on the cross”. So by the looks of things, well it’s pretty obvious from first glance that LP isn’t what we would generally classify as a Christian artist. So that would mean, as is convention these days, that we are likely to run into more religious references pointing to non-religious ideas throughout this album.

But that said, “holy” is a term that is often applied to marriage in general. And all tracks up until this point considered, it could be more or less concluded that LP is indeed looking for that special someone. But for the time being or at least as far as this very track is concerned, she is once again taking on the role, as with on “When We Touch“, of a regretful ex.
