“When We Touch” by LP

“When We Touch” is pretty straightforward in terms of the main sentiment being relayed. And that is the vocalist relishing the touch of the addressee, particularly it would seem after the two of them have been separated for some time.

What isn’t abundantly clear though is the nature of their relationship, though we can safely presume it is romantic. And what is even less pressingly evident is why the two of them have been separated in the first place. But perhaps the easiest conclusion to come to is that, taking into consideration the second stanza in particular, the two of them have broken up, and at the time they did so it was a mutual decision.

But now ‘in her exile’, the vocalist has realized just how much the addressee means to her.  And she is also convinced that said individual feels the same.

So with all of that in mind, a possible way of interpreting the first verse is that the two of them have met up, post-breakup, in a casual type of way and in the process made physical contact. And that is not to say that said contact was amorous in nature. But either way, just a simple touch, if you will, has buttressed what is revealed later in the song, that the vocalist greatly misses the addressee.
