“One Of These Mornings” by TV Girl

By this point in the playlist of “Grapes Upon the Vine”, it can be gathered that this album is speaking to some pretty heavy concepts. And as for “One of These Mornings”, it reads somewhat similar to one of the previous tracks on the playlist, “Higher Ground”.

For instance, we once again find Brad Petering arguing that some people have messed up too severely to ever be able to redeem themselves from a spiritual standpoint. In this case, that particular idea is presented in the second verse. And the first verse is related to that notion, pointing to how difficult, if not impossible in the eyes of TV Girl, it is for a person to actually change internally once they’ve established a routine for themselves.

“One of these mornings
It won’t be long
You’re gonna look for me, child
And I’ll be gone
One of these mornings
It won’t be long
You’re gonna look for me, child
And I’ll be gone”

Also, as with the title/chorus, Petering is again alluding to the notion that he will die eventually. Making such assertions may read like a no-brainer, but as with “Higher Ground”, it kinda feels as if the vocalist is expecting his departure from the mortal plane to happen sooner rather than later.

Or let’s close by saying that if nothing else, amongst the recurring subthemes of “Grapes Upon the Vine” are death and the afterlife. In other words, those appear to be two related topics which Brad Petering ruminates on regularly and have come to the conclusion that certain common religious beliefs, such as the existence of heaven and the ability to repent, may not be valid.

THE TEAM BEHIND “ONE OF THESE MORNINGS”

As of this writing, Brad Petering is credited as the sole composer of TV Girl’s “One of These Mornings”.  But that may change in the future, since it has been ascertained that in creating this song he may have sampled or interpolated Moby’s 2002 track of the same name. And Moby’s piece likewise samples a 1967 gospel tune – from whence the lines “one of these mornings, it won’t be long, you’ll look for me, and I’ll be gone” are originally derived – titled “Walk Around Heaven All Day by The Caravans”.

“One of These Mornings” is the sixth track on the playlist of “Grapes Upon the Vine”, the TV Girl studio album that came out on 30 June 2023 with the backing of Blissful Serenity Industries.
