“Patiently Waiting” by 50 Cent (ft. Eminem)
There’s a whole lot going on lyrically in 50 Cent’s “Patiently Waiting”. But in trying to derive a succinct theme, we can say that it is an ode to perseverance, particularly from 50 Cent’s personal perspective. For as fans of the artist know he had endured various setbacks, including an assassination attempt on his life which led to him catching nine bullets, before making it big. So the way the title of this song has been interpreted is as highlighting the ‘patience’ Fif exercised before finally becoming a big-name artist, which occurred during the same era in which this song was released.
Meanwhile Eminem serves more as a backup, if you will, to 50, reiterating many of the same ideas and bigging up the lead rapper in the process. And on top of being persevering artists they also depict themselves as being accordingly tough, and Fif especially comes off as someone you wouldn’t want to play with.
“I been patiently waitin’ for a track to explode on”
