“Remember the Name” by Ed Sheeran (ft. Eminem & 50 Cent)

Ed Sheeran, Eminem and 50 Cent’s “Remember the Name” is a song centered on the narrators’ braggadocio, though it does not necessarily come off as such. The phrase “remember the name” is a roundabout way of saying ‘respect my greatness’. So the main theme of the track is the narrators’ standing in the music industry, which in the case of all three individuals, as insinuated by the title, is quite impressive.

You can view the lyrics, alternate interprations and sheet music for 50 Cent's Remember the Name at Lyrics.org.

However, they go about expressing such in different ways. For Ed Sheeran, it is about reminiscing on the days when nobody really thought he would blow up and comparing it to his current superstar standing.  Eminem also remembers his early years struggling to “shop a deal” (as in get a record contract) but focuses more on his superior lyricism and the fact that he never intends to stop rapping. Meanwhile 50 is straight “ballin’”, as in detailing various ways his extravagant wealth is manifest and his mantra of ‘blowing a check’ (i.e. spending a lot of money) today with no concern for tomorrow, only to repeat the process again the next day.

So in summation, we have three different artists reminding you of what they are about. For Ed, it is career advancement. For Em, it is exceptional lyrics. And for 50, it is spending racks on a showy lifestyle. And their overall goal for doing so is to help the listener “remember the name”, as in not to forget how great they actually are.
