“SPACE CADET” by Lil Uzi Vert

References to space is a recurring motif in Lil Uzi Vert’s artistry, as he tends to liken himself to an alien or what have you. And that noted, “Space Cadet” can also be considered standard Uzi Vert fare.

For instance, the rapper recently made a move which some people may interpret as alluding to Uzi being bisexual. But in the first verse, let’s just say that he reaffirms his preference for females. And there are also the references to drugs, i.e. “molly” or ecstasy, that we have come to expect from this artist. In fact as far as the verses go, they can be said to be based on Lil Uzi having developed a liking to sex with such strong intoxicants involved.

Uzi Vert, despite not being the most intimidating looking rapper, also commonly makes it known that he’s packing, a concept that is referenced in the first verse. And of course, such a song would not be complete without allusions to his wealth.

Meanwhile, as far the chorus is concerned, it appears that Uzi is acknowledging that he hasn’t been terribly active on the musical tip of late, in terms of actually dropping tracks. And he seems to imply, in that regard, that he’s been chillin’ in the meantime.

Finally going back to the title, on top of referring to himself as “a space cadet”, the rapper also accepts being “the geek” and “that real in the bridge. And such is another well-known aspect of Lil Uzi Vert’s artistry, i.e. his willingness to classify himself outside of mainstream norms, if you will.

Release of “SPACE CADET”

This song was a surprise release that came out on 16 July 2022. As of the date of its release, it is believed to be the lead single from a forthcoming Lil Uzi Vert EP project. 

Uzi has participated in a few other tracks earlier in the year, all of which have been collaborations. One such notable one is “Heavy” featuring Japanese hip-hop artist Nigo.

The last album Vert dropped to date was 2020’s “Pluto x Baby Pluto”, in which Future co-starred. And the last solo LP he dropped, “Lil Uzi Vert vs. the World 2”, came out that same year.

Interesting to note:

Uzi recently updated his gender status on Instagram and is now using the pronouns “they” and “them” instead of he or him. Doing so is a way for people to identify themselves as being non-binary. And perhaps relatedly, his next full-length project is expected to be titled “The Pink Tape”.
