“Holy Smokes” by Trippie Redd (ft. Lil Uzi Vert)

This song was obviously inspired by emo-ism. That’s made apparent from the opening chorus, in which Trippie Redd depicts himself as someone who, despite being wealthy, cannot buy love. And such a trend is continued into the first verse, which is also held down by said vocalist. Therein, Trippie lets it be amply known that he is well-paid. But amidst such, he also for instance is warning a female addressee of the dangers of the streets, as well the rapper claiming to be “exhausted”.

Or put differently, it’s like along with the wealth also comes the associated disadvantages. And Redd also gives a shoutout to the “white cup filled with purple stuff”, aka lean, thus furthering conjuring up images of emo past.

However Lil Uzi Vert takes it in a completely different direction. His passage is rather centered on the topic of screwing other dudes’ girlfriends. This is an activity which he apparently gets a kick out of. And if one of said boyfriends “want smoke with” Uzi Vert, he’s ready to take it there also.

Meanwhile concerning the title of this song, the expression “holy smoke” is actually one that has been most popularly utilized by Hollywood actor Burt Ward via his 1960s’ depiction of Robin (on the television series Batman).

The expression is actually “an exclamation of surprise” which, if interpreted as so in this song, would point to the fact that the rappers have made rich. But aside from serving as this track’s title and opening phrase of the chorus, said term doesn’t really appear to play any prominent role in the lyrics.
