“Strangers” by Kenya Grace

The lyrics of Kenya Grace’s “Strangers” describe a cyclical pattern of relationships where every new partner seems to echo the behaviors and actions of previous ones.

The narrator (Kenya) expresses deep frustration over the repetitive nature of her romantic encounters: starting with passion and closeness, and then eventually ending in distance and estrangement.

The mention of “déjà vu” reinforces the idea that she feels like she’s reliving the same relationship over and over again, even with different partners. This sad repetitive cycle makes her feel vulnerable and disillusioned, as she begins to see love as something temporary and fleeting.

The bridge brings a deeper introspection. Here, we find Kenya questioning the authenticity of past communications and whether genuine love can exist in such a repetitive pattern.

“We’ll get in your car and you’ll lean to kiss me
We’ll talk for hours and lie on the backseat
Uh-huh, uh-huh, uh
Uh-huh, uh-huh
And then one random night when everything changes
You won’t reply and we’ll go back to strangers
Uh-huh, uh-huh, uh”

A Personal Opinion

“Strangers” is spot on! ???? It’s like Kenya dove straight into my diary and put words to my tangled emotions. The ‘déjà vu’ part? Felt that. It’s so crazy how music can capture such complex feelings.????????
