“Teacher’s Pet” by Melanie Martinez

Melanie’s Martinez’s “Teacher’s Pet” is a song about an illicit romantic relationship between a student and her teacher. And for the most part, the singer plays the role of the girl in said affair. And to make a long story short, she has fallen in love with him. However she feels that he is not taking her seriously, with the insinuation being that she believes he perceives her as being immature.

And speaking to the situation in general, she is pissed off. That is to say that she desires to takes this romance from the underground into the light, as in no longer keeping it a secret. But he is obviously against that idea, rather being dedicated to the “wife and kids” he already has. 

So at the end of the day, Melanie displays mixed emotions. On one hand, she feels taken advantage of – and curses the teacher accordingly. But on the other, she obviously has feelings for the guy and fears losing him.

Release Date of “Teacher’s Pet”

After its initial tease on 15 August 2019, “Teacher’s Pet” was eventually released. It was one of the songs on “K-12”. “K-12” is the title of the second studio album of the very successful musical career of Martinez. Both song and album came out on 6 September 2019.

“Teacher’s Pet” is the longest track on “K-12” (after “High School Sweethearts“). Furthermore, in addition to the below it is one of the album’s favorites among fans:

Yes. She wrote this track along with its producer, Michael Keenan. Actually, Martinez took part in the writing of all the songs on “K-12”.

    Yeah, okay, but does she possibly have some sort of connection with the song? Or maybe I am just overthinking it..

      Actually, no I don’t think she does.
      The song was made, much like every other song on the album, to follow the story of the K-12 movie. And in the movie, it’s Melanie’s friend, not her, who is in that relationship.
      I’m not sure if the song stems from something real, but even if it does it was probably something that happened to her friend.

    Yeah, Melanie usually makes the songs somewhat about what happened in the past to her but I am not sure about this one?
