“Up All Night” by Khalid
Khalid’s “Up All Night” is centered on the concept of the singer going through a phase in his life where he is inquisitive about the world around him. He has come to the realization that “there’s so much more” for him “left to find”, as in realizing his current level of knowledge and wisdom still has much to be desired.
Moreover he questions where his life is going in general, especially within the context of “getting older by the day”. And overall, his disposition is one where he recognizes “pain” as an ever-present reality. Additionally, his attitude is such that he feels his actions are inconsequential in the grand scheme of things. And the types of complex thoughts that we have just mentioned are keeping him “up all night”. Or put differently, he is unable to sleep due to being preoccupied with such deep ideas.
And overall he comes off as an individual who is unsatisfied with the current state of his life, though he is ‘thankful that he’s still alive’. So basically, the aforementioned thoughts come off as his way of trying to figure out not only how to edify his existence but also his place in the world.
