“When It Rains It Pours” is centered on the singer’s breakup with his girlfriend and how things turned out better for him afterwards. The phrase “When it rains it pours” actually means that either good or bad luck usually comes in rapid succession.
For the narrator, the breakup, although it hurt, was the beginning of a series of good fortune as he won a raffle, a vacation, a good spot in a parking lot, a Radio Hit among others. The writer is thrilled at the good luck he is experiencing and realizes that he being ditched was actually good and paved the way for his luck.
Co-writer Walker McGuire told Sounds like Nashville that he, Ray Fulcher and Luke Combs were trying to write a song but Combs was quite distracted as he kept texting his ex. It was then that the idea hit Walker that they should write a song about Luke’s ex. He was initially hesitant but changed his mind and suggested that the song should rather make her mad.
Combs also explained that he initially had an idea for the song, however it was too depressing. The three writers decided to switch it up and have fun with it by channeling some humor.
When was “When It Rains It Pours” released?
It came out in June 2017 as one of the singles from the country album “This One’s For You”. Said album was the first studio album of Luke’s career.
