AURORA’s “Cure for Me” Lyrics Meaning

“Cure for Me” is one of those songs in which the artist’s explanation and the lyrics don’t read as if they are in congruence. Or let’s more euphemistically say that the wording is so metaphorical that the true meaning of the piece may fly over the heads of some listeners, unless they research what Aurora has said about it, with her own explanations even being quite lengthy.

AURORA describes "Cure for Me"

Based on the words of Aurora, what this track is speaking to is the need to belong, as well as stigmatization of gay people. And with that foreknowledge in mind, anyone familiar with her artistry and sexual orientation will probably figure out, putting those ideas together, that what the title alludes is the songstress asserting that she doesn’t “need a cure for” herself (as if perhaps inspired by the X-Men film franchise).

Or put more plainly, Aurora is the type who believes people should be accepted as are – specifically within the context of sexual preference in this case – no matter what. Apparently, as far as the lyrics go, she has decided to relay that argument for the most part in a romantic context.

In Conclusion

As has already been pointed out numerous times in this blog, such is a common device amongst popular singers, i.e. putting ideas which may not have anything to do with romance per se within a narrative framework, where for example the vocalist in this case appears to be singing to her lover.

Presumably these singers do so in the name of making said ideas easier to understand or more entertaining. And as far as “Cure for Me” goes, whereas that latter objective may have been achieved, the former, not so much. And what the narrative actually reads like, at least on the surface, is the vocalist rebelling against a partner who will not accept her for who she truly is.
