“F&MU” by Kehlani

To cut to the chase, the title of this song (“F&MU”) is actually an abbreviation for “f and make up”, with the first letter in that phrase being an allusion to bedroom fun. And accordingly, the idea the lyrics focus on is the concept of make-up intimacy.

Make-up intimacy is the lovemaking which occurs after a romantic couple has been in a serious argument. And as those who have experienced such are likely aware of, it tends to be more-gratifying than everyday bedroom fun. This is a reality which Kehlani herself is well aware of. As such not only does she look forward to doing it after an argument with her boo, but even more so she may actually spark drama with him for the specific purpose of subsequently receiving some “fire”, i.e. exemplary bedroom fun. And along those same lines, she expresses regret that she actually has to start a fight with her lover to make him perform in such a manner.

So basically, the way the entire scenario plays out is that Kehlani only achieves true sensual satisfaction after she and her lover get into a quarrel. So accordingly, she is compelled to occasionally spark beef with him.
