“Give Me Just a Little More Time” by Chairmen of the Board

The narrator of “Give Me Just a Little More Time” can be viewed in a couple of different ways. At certain points it seems as if the addressee, his romantic interest, has decided to break up with him. And if such is indeed the case, then the title would be based on his appeal to her to dedicate “just a little more time” to their romance, as he is sure at some future point it will live up to her expectations.

Later in the song he comes off as if this is a lady he is now trying to get with. And in that regard, he is also convincing her to dedicate ample time to their union in the name of the two of them fulfilling a glorious destiny side-by-side.

Either way, the narrator definitely seems more committed to this relationship than the addressee. He realizes they are both “young and impatient”, but she is definitely more “in a hurry” than he is. So once again, at least a good part of the lyrics definitely reads as if he is trying to hold on to a woman who is on the verge of moving on without him.
