“New York City” by Kylie Minogue
This track is not really an ode to New York City as the title suggests, although Kylie Minogue does highlight what she likes about the Big Apple, in particular that “everybody looks so pretty.” Rather this is basically a love song, as it is centered on a person she has great affection for who is situated in New York City. Thus the primary sentiment expressed throughout is yes, she does indeed want to get to the Big Apple. But the reason she wants to go there is to be with this person.
Indeed Kylie does mention other travel destinations which are close to her heart, such as Tokyo and Bangkok. However, what is drawing her to the Big Apple in particular, as aforementioned, is the strong love she has for her significant other. Thus she is very much looking forward to reaching this destination to be by his side.

This is the lead single from Kyle Minogue’s Step Back in Time: The Definitive Collection. The rest of the album is a greatest hits’ collection of 41 tracks she dropped throughout the years. But she did not release “New York City” until 3 May 2019 via her own label (Darenote Limited) and BMG.
Originally this track was intended for Minogue’s 2018 album Golden, but ultimately it did not make the cut. However, she performed it live a few times since April of 2018.
“New York City” was produced by DJ Fresh. He also co-wrote it with Mylo, Karen Poole as well as Kylie Minogue herself.
