Proclaiming that one’s “heart [is] on fire” is another way of a person saying that he is overcome with passion. Moreover, in this case Eric Church is referring to such a sensation in a romantic context. And more specifically, he is reminiscing on his relationship with an old girlfriend who reads as if she may have been the vocalist’s first love. Indeed by the looks of things, the situation is such that even ’til now looking at a dated pic of her brings a smile to his face.

And no, it doesn’t read like the vocalist is trying to get her back with her or anything like that. In fact for all we know, the two of them may still be together. But in any event what is clear is that the addressee is a sweetheart from his youth which the singer has an enduring admiration for.

Facts about “Heart on Fire”

By the time this song came out on 29 January 2021, Eric Church, a singer from Nashville (via North Carolina), already had three Billboard 200 chart toppers under his belt. “Heart on Fire” is featured on his seventh studio album, itself being named “Heart & Soul”.

“Heart on Fire” broke the top 10 of Billboard’s Country Airplay chart stateside and performed comparably well in Australia and Canada.

This tune was written by Eric (apparently being the first he penned for “Heart & Soul”).

Noted American record producer and multi-instrumentalist Jay Joyce handled the entire production of this song.

Eric admitted to writing this song with an American singer named Joanna Cotten in mind. While writing it, he imagined Joanna contributing vocally to it. Interesting enough, Cotten did in fact join him when he performed “Heart on Fire” during the 2021 edition of the County Music Association Awards.

The music video to this track, which reportedly is a montage of older Eric Church clips, was directed by Reid Long.

The country album, “Heart & Soul” by Church was released on April 16 of 2021. It was put out as the country singer’s seventh studio album.

This album was produced by the aforementioned Joyce. The record labels, EMI Records Nashville and BigEC records were responsible for its launch.

“Heart & Soul” peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard 200, No. 2 in the UK, No. 10 in Canada and No. 6 in Australia.

At the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards held on the 14th of March 2021, the album’s first single, “Stick That in Your Country Song” won a nomination for the award, “Best Country Solo Performance” but lost to “When My Amy Prays” by Vince Gill.
