“If You’re Too Shy (Let Me Know)” by The 1975

The 1975’s “If You’re Too Shy (Let Me Know)relies heavily on intricate, symbolic language. But overall, the story seems to be based on the singer hooking up with a lady whom we can say is more sensually-adventurous than he is. In fact contrary to what the mind may initially conceive when reading the title of this track title and knowing that the singer is a male, that titular comment is actually being directed towards him by said female.

And the way the lyrics seemingly play out is that this is someone he met online. But again they can be interpreted in various ways. For instance, it could perhaps be argued, considering the first line of the second verse for instance, that said addressee is someone whom the singer interacts with exclusively via the internet. But what can be definitively ascertained is that this lady compels him to let her see him in the buff.  And she tells him that if he is “too shy” to do so, he should ‘let her know’.

So perhaps at the end of the day we can say this is some type of a love song or at least one centered on a romance. But it would seem to be some type of romantic situation whereas the woman is pretty much in control.
