Meaning of “La La Land” by Bryce Vine (Ft. YG)

“La La Land” is basically an ode to the state of California, where the song is set and features well-known Los Angeles representative YG. The storyline of the track is actually the artists trying to kick it to girls they are interested in. In Bryce Vine’s case, it is some shorty he “met… at Coachella” whom he is imploring that, if she is intent on wasting time that she do so “with (him) in California”. And in YG’s scenario, it is a woman who he is fundamentally trying to get quickly into the sack who is also “wasting time in Cali”.

So ultimately this track reads like a romantic-chilling song set in the Golden State, as its two central themes are ‘wasting time’ and the desire for the artists to get close to women who they would like to get into relationships with.

But, hear me out, when he says that ‘I met her at Coachella, why you acting like you don’t remember?’ Couldn’t that be a reference to something like a date rape drug or something like that. A maybe his ‘La La Land’ was that? He also says, ‘Now we’re too drunk and a little too high’ maybe this is another reference to a date rape drug. And maybe they’re at the same house party because that’s typically where date rape drugs are found. And maybe the camera not stopping is a reference to something else. It was just a hunch I had.

No, why would that have anything to do with a date rape drug. He says “why you acting like you don’t remember?” Insinuating she is personally pretending not to know him or maybe truly doesn’t remember. Also being too drunk or too high has never been used to reference a date rape drug. How are you even seeing that?

That’s reaching pretty freaking hard. Forgetting or pretending to forget meeting a person that you met maybe a month ago or longer does not scream date rape drug. Nor does being to drunk or too high. If he would have said something about fixing her a bill Cosby then I’d be inclined to see it. But there isn’t anything in this song that is referencing date rape at all. Just a song like all the others talking about trying to get with a girl.
