Miley Cyrus’ “Golden G String” Lyrics Meaning

Miley Cyrus has taken on somewhat of a feminist, don’t-give-AF approach throughout her “Plastic Hearts” album. And when you combine those two concepts into one, you get a song like “Golden G String”.

In the chorus, the singer references “the old boys [who] hold all the cards”. In other words, she acknowledges that this is indeed a man’s world, as in one where males are leaders of the power structure. However, this is just her roundabout approach to the true matter at hand, that being what she perceives as a sexist double standard permeating throughout society. So for instance, you have someone like Donald Trump who is on record advising his male cohorts to grab women’s holy parts. Yet he was still able to become President of the United States.

Meanwhile Cyrus has received more than enough criticism due to for instance her sexualized performance at the  2009 Teen Choice Awards or her infamous on-stage twerking at the 2013 MTV VMAs.  So now Miley is sort of lashing out against the system.  And the titular “Golden G String” is symbolic of the entertainer resolving herself to use her sexuality as an exertion of her feminine “power” and subsequently as a means of generating income.

This track was written by Miley Cyrus and Andrew Wyatt, with the latter artist also producing it alongside Emile Haynie.

According to Cyrus, “Golden G String” was written back circa 2017-2018.

For the record, Smiley Miley’s official website does in fact sell a product known as the Miley Cyrus Golden G-String.

“Plastic Hearts” is the name of the Miley Cyrus album which RCA Records officially issued on 27 November 2020. And this track is the 12th song on that project’s playlist.
