“Million to One” by Camila Cabello
Camila Cabello’s “Million to One” is premised on the vocalist possessing a strong desire to overcome her current environment. Like most people perhaps we can say, she appears to be in a setting where she is expected to conform to the norms of her family, culture, society or however you want to put it.
But she also fantasizes about one day actually living a fulfilling life in the outside world. Indeed it is this fantasy which gives her life meaning, so to speak. So with that in mind, there really isn’t an option as to whether or not she will make the leap. It is either that or being forced to perpetually contend with her own conscience for not being brave enough to do so.
But alas, whereas the inspiration and faith may be there, by the looks of things the road itself has yet to materialize. So for the time being it’s a waiting game that the vocalist must play. But in the meantime, as implied earlier she remains anxious as to when her destiny will finally manifest.
And ultimately the title, it can be said, is indicative of her faith. Camila/Cinderella is convinced, even if those around her are evidently not able to perceive it, that she’s going to beat the odds – be “a million to one” as she terms it – and go on to live an extraordinary life.

Camila Cabello wrote this song with Scott Harris, the latter of whom also acted as the track’s producer.
It is one of the tunes featured on Cinderella (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack), a project which is the product of two of the biggest labels in the game, Epic Records (stateside) and Columbia Records (across the pond). And Cinderella itself is a movie by Sony Pictures (aka Columbia Pictures). It is distributed by Amazon and and actually stars Camila in the titular role.
This song was officially released as the first single from the aforementioned soundtrack on 31 August 2021.
Cinderella (2021)
Cinderella (2021) is a 21st century remake of the classic fairytale of the same name. This is a story which, in its modern form, dates back to the early 17th century.
As noted earlier Cabello, who up until this point has limited experience playing fictional roles, portrays Cinderella herself.
And as expected, considering that Cabello is primarily a singer by profession, the film itself is a musical. FYI: Camila is actually involved in almost half the songs featured on the soundtrack.
Her most notable co-stars in the movie are as follows:
- fellow singer/actress Idina Menzel, a name well known in the Disney circuit
- former James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan
Cinderella premiered on 30 August 2021 and was officially released theatrically and via Amazon Prime a few days later, on 3 September.
