“Paradise Calling” by Birdy

All lyrics of “Paradise Calling” considered, it appears that Birdy is singing to a potential or former lover.  Either way, evidently the addressee is someone she wants to hook up or re-connect with. However, it does not read like said individual is as confident in that regard as she is.

So basically, it’s as if the vocalist is encouraging him to have faith in their love, that “paradise [is] calling”, i.e. that their relationship has the genuine potential to prove edifying. But that said, both parties have to confidently exert the effort to make it so.

“Paradise calling
All I’ve ever wanted was
Something to believe in (Oh-oh)
Something to believe in (Our love)
Both eyes wide open
So high, still falling
If you could only feel (Oh-oh)
If you could only feel (Our love)”

Birdy wrote this song with King Ed and Anya Jones, with the three musicians also acting as the track’s producer.

Atlantic Records officially made this track public on 12 July 2023, with it serving as the fourth and final single in advance of the album it is featured on, which is Birdy’s “Portraits”.
