“Pretty Boy” by Joji

Based on the lyrical snippet that has been released on this song, it would appear that Joji is celebrating the city life. Indeed the singer is known to be a resident of Brooklyn, with NYC being one of the largest metropolitan areas in the world. And he begins this track by proclaiming that he is “a pretty boy living on the west side”, with the “west side” being an allusion to the city.

He then goes on to celebrate his lifestyle. For instance he is “living so loud” that he seemingly shuns the idea of depression, “fear” and “lies”. It also seems that drugs and alcohol are a part of his life. And why? This is due to references being made to “blue pills” and the “finest wine”. And yes, we know that New York City does not have any hills.  But the way “these hills” are depicted in this song is as being symbolic of the bright lights of the big city. So it is arguable in this case they can even represent an idea akin to say well-lit skyscrapers.

And once again, the general feeling that is being put forth is that the vocalist is indeed chillin’ in his current setting. Thus the title of this track would likely lend to such a notion, not so much Joji exalting himself as it is him just celebrating the fact that he’s in a good place.

this song is pretty sarcastic. he’s talking about how the pretty boy is actually miserable. it’s not describing an ideal lifestyle. and it’s not a celebration for how jojis life is going. this interpretation is wrong.
