“Private Landing” by Don Toliver (ft. Justin Bieber and Future)

Don Tolliver is a rapper from Houston who was more or less put on by Travis Scott and experienced an explosion of success very late in the 2010s. This was around the time Don first came out. Throughout the years, being most notably affiliated with Atlantic Records and Cactus Jack Records (i.e. the two labels that released “Private Landing” on 24 February 2023), the rapper has been privy to a number of collaborations alongside more-popular artists.

For instance, Tolliver has already teamed up with both Justin Bieber and Future on a number of occasions. To note, “Private Landing” came out as part of Tolliver’s third studio album, “Love Sick”, with itself is a replete with guest stars. And besides for the three vocalists, the writers of this song are its producers:

  • Rob Bisel
  • Omar Guetfa
  • 206Dereck

WHAT IS A “PRIVATE LANDING” (IN CONTEXT)?

The term “private landing” only appears once in the song, during the first verse, which is held down by Don Tolliver. And in context, he is referring to two things. One is, as stated earlier in the passage via the likewise usage of the word “landing”, is being thoroughly high – particularly off of, as implied, coke. But throughout it all, he is also notes that he has a tendency to turn off romantic interests (though what’s concurrently being insinuated, of course, is that he has no problem getting then).

So it’s as if on one hand, Tolliver is focused on doing his thing regardless of what “these hoes” may think.  But at the same time, in a roundabout way, he’s letting it be known that he is indeed living that money-and-b*-ches life.

ENTER FUTURE AND THE BIEBS

Meanwhile, when it comes to dropping raps centered on such a lifestyle, few, if any, are better at it than Future. So similarly, Hendrix’s lyrics alternate between allusions to his massive level of wealth and success and those relatedly pointing to his sexual adventurism.

In other words, he uses his money to impress women who, by the looks of things, inevitably end up in his bed.  And what’s also implied is that Future splurges on those who he really likes.

As for the bridge, which is rendered via the Biebs, Justin is basically just harmonizing throughout. He does eventually close out the segment by noting that he’s “spinning, double cup… leaning” which, most simply interpreted, would mean that he’s notably intoxicated.

It also may be that at the end of the bridge when he utters “[I] need you to lean in”, keeping within the theme established by Tolliver he is making that statement to a romantic interest.

CONCLUSION

So this is fundamentally a drugs-and-sex song. That is to say that as conclusively inferred in the chorus, Tolliver enjoys being high (in that particularly case “off a bean”, i.e. Ecstasy), and he also likes having ladies around when he’s in such a state, even if, as stated earlier, some of them may not particularly like it.

“I’m feelin’ stuck (Feelin’ stuck)
I’m off a bean (Yeah), like, what the f–k? (What the f–k?)
I’m in the tree (Tree), she holler up (Holler up)
What you need? (What you need?) Got it up (Ooh-ooh)”
