“Psycho” by Anne-Marie & Aitch

In “Psycho”, the two vocalists take on the role of lovers. And to make a long story short, Anne-Marie appears to have solid evidence that Aitch is cheating on her. 

Where the title comes into play is via him countering such accusations by claiming she’s “psycho”. Or put otherwise, his argument is that the aforementioned evidence is figments of her imagination, to the point where he is even questioning her sanity.

So conclusively, it has to be that either one of the two individuals in this equation is a toxic lover. That is to say that Anne-Marie is likely romantically paranoid and casts the associated burden onto Aitch. Or more likely, since this piece is in fact based on the songstress’s past romantic disappointments, he is actually cheating and is not only trying to convince her otherwise but also basically dissing her in the process.

The lyrics of “Psycho” are actually inspired by a number of past toxic romantic relationships Anne-Marie was in. The singer revealed that at the end of each of these relationships, she came out feeling as though she was the problem despite the fact that her toxic exes were the problem.

This is exactly what the song’s lyrics deal with. To Marie, it is absolutely wrong for anyone to treat you like you are the cause of a problem when in actual fact you are not.

This song was written to address this issue. According to Anne-Marie, it is about standing up to any toxic lover who has made you feel like the problem in your relationship with them is your fault when in actuality they are the problem.

Release Date of “Psycho”

“Psycho” was officially dropped on 15 September 2022. It is fair to say that as of the release date of this song, Aitch and Anne-Marie can be considered up-and-coming musicians on the British music scene. 

The issuance of this song was originally set for 9 September. It was however postponed a few days as at the time the United Kingdom was mourning the passing of their long-reigning monarch, Queen Elizabeth II.

Success

“Psycho” track topped what is known as the UK Official Trending Chart. Furthermore, it was also a top-5 single on the UK Singles Chart proper. Also, it went on to expeditiously achieve silver certification via the BPI in 2022.

The Collaboration

“Psycho” marks the first collaboration between Anne-Marie and Aitch. At the time of the track’s release, the singers were respectively 31 and 21 years old.

Aitch is granted equal billing as Anne-Marie on this song. However, he doesn’t have a segment of his own but rather adlibs the second verse, as led by Anne-Marie.
