“So Done” by The Kid Laroi

What the vocalist is “so done” with, first and foremost, is his relationship with the addressee, his significant other. The way the situation reads is that he perceives her as being a toxic partner, and he has reached the point where he can no longer tolerate her shenanigans, i.e. ‘the games she plays’ with him.

But of course things are not that easy for the emo rapper. For despite concluding that this romance must come to an end, that doesn’t negate the fact that he has strong feelings for said lady.

Indeed on one hand, as noted above, he comes off as if he’s ready to bounce. But then around mid-verse he’s rather telling her to “walk out”. So the implication is that he doesn’t have the resolve, i.e. his love is too strong to just walk away from this association.

But still, he knows that he needs to. And that is the thesis sentiment of this track, Laroi definitively coming to the realization that this relationship, and his partner in particular have done him dirty.  In fact as far as he’s concerned, he’s not only “done” with her but also “love” in general.  Or put differently, this romance has left such a sour taste in his mouth that he’s become disinterested in dating altogether.

The music video to this piece was directed by Lyrical Lemonade’s Cole Bennett, a regular collaborator of Laroi’s.

Facts about “So Done”

This track is from the deluxe version of “F**k Love (Savage)”, which is Laroi’s maiden commercial mixtape. Prior to that Laroi had only officially released one project, which was his debut EP, “14 With a Dream” (2018).

This song was released as the fourth single overall from the aforementioned on 23 October 2020. And The Kid Laroi had just turned 17 years old a couple of months prior to the release of this track.

It would appear that from an artistic standpoint the entirety of the mixtape is themed on a singular relationship, i.e. the same one featured in this song. But as far as its real-life basis, it is the combination of “a girl or two or three” that The Kid Laroi ‘messed with’ in the past.

The Kid Laroi, despite being all the way from Australia, had the privilege of being taken under the wing of Juice WRLD, a rapper from Chi-town.

Around that time Juice WRLD was one of the most-popular artists in hip-hop but unfortunately passed away, himself only being 21, in late 2019. And we can say that with Laroi being such a close confidante, that tragic passing – or perhaps even WRLD being featured on one of his tracks in general – actually contributed to launching his career. That is to say that his first international hit, 2020’s “Go” (the lead single from F**k Love), featured Juice WRLD.

The Kid Laroi was not only a regular collaborator of Juice WRLD’s but has also worked alongside the likes of Lil Tjay, Lil Tecca and Blackbear.

Did Laroi write “So Done”?

Yes. The Kid Laroi wrote this song in conjunction with its producers, Khaled Rohaim and Omer Fedi.
