“I Can’t Go Back To The Way It Was (Intro)” by The Kid LAROI

The Kid Laroi took some artistic liberties with this song, such as implying in the first verse that his parents are deceased, even though in real life they appear to be very much alive and kicking. The chorus of this song also gives the impression that he grew up in the ‘hood, ‘breaking bones and shedding some blood’ in the process and even losing “a few friends” along the way.

We don’t know how many of his homeys, besides for Juice WRLD, may have died in past years. However, the community The Kid was primarily raised in, Waterloo, apparently isn’t one of the tougher parts of Sydney.

So we will take it that in this case, he is taking on a character more akin to what you would expect from a stateside rapper. Going back to his strong association with Juice WRLD, Laroi’s specialty, from a lyrical standpoint, is emo rap. And wording-wise, this outing can be classified in such a category.

For example the title points to the notion of the vocalist, most simply interpreted, being unable to get over his less-than-ideal past. As inferred, that would include his parents’ passing, the death of friends, and Laroi having been a gangbanger.

But to reiterate, he obviously isn’t speaking to his own personal experiences. So perhaps we can say that The Kid is empathizing with the likes of someone who actually endured such challenges, such as 50 Cent for instance.
