“Take My Hand” by 5 Seconds of Summer

5 Seconds of Summer (5SOS) recently dropped a track, just a few months earlier, entitled “2011” which is theoretically similar in nature to “Take My Hand”. That is to say that it has been put forth that this song is sorta existential, i.e. featuring Luke taking a critical look at the success the homeys have experienced.

But beyond that, as implied by this title, the lyrics also read sorta like a K-pop, with 5SOS acknowledging interaction with their fans as being an integral part of their existence, so to speak. Either way, it doesn’t seem that said fans would be the primary addressee, i.e. the person whom the vocalist is telling to ‘take his hand’ in the chorus. Rather, once again using “2011” as a reference point, it is possible that who Hemmings is speaking to – an addressee who is referred to “young man” and instructed to “look in the mirror” – would actually be someone like a younger version of himself.

BMG released “Take My Hand” as a single on 1 April 2022. It is one of the songs from 5 Seconds of Summer’s fifth studio album, which is concurrently unnamed. And for the record, the Australian band’s most recent LP, 2020’s “Calm”, topped the UK Singles Chart and reached second place on the Billboard Hot 100.

The band’s frontman Luke Hemmings is officially acknowledged as the only writer of this song. The producer is his bandmate, guitarist Michael Clifford. And to note 5SOS, being a quartet, is made complete by drummer Ashton Irwin and bassist Calum Hood.
