“Verdansk” by Dave

“Verdansk” is a braggadocious track coming to us via Dave. This time around though he takes a unique approach by also utilizing a few metaphors related to the videogame Call of Duty: Warzone (2020), which apparently is one of his favorites.

You can view the lyrics, alternate interprations and sheet music for Dave's Verdansk at Lyrics.org.

And with the war game in mind, there are also lyrics alluding to him living some type of violent street life, including Dave being affiliated with drug dealers or what have you. So in other words, this is your standard rap song, albeit being relayed by an above-average lyricist.

Famous names mentioned in “Verdansk”

But that said, the vocalist does drop some interesting names in the chorus. For instance, he references the failed romance between American music stars YG and Kehlani to point to his own wherewithal to discipline “young gangstas”, or what have you.

Dave also gives a more favorable shoutout to the late Kwamé Nkrumah. Nkrumah is best remembered as a politician who became the first President of Ghana back in 1957. And to be honest, this is perhaps the first time we’ve come across Nkrumah being mentioned in a major rap song. And it is understandable that this vocalist would identify with such a figure since his own parents are from another West African country, Nigeria.

All in all

Overall, Dave is doing his thing. It stands to reason that as a mainstream A list British rap artist, not all of his songs can be about deep and/or heart-wrenching topics. Sometimes he has to go with the flow and do the drug dealer / gangsta / rich rapper thing also, a subtheme he actually relies on quite frequently in “We’re All Alone in This Together”. In fact this is one of the tracks therein where he pretty much sticks that theme throughout.
