“Wicked Ways” by Halestorm
There seems to be a lot of songs of late that feature a sentiment similar to that which this piece is based on. And that is the singer embracing her “devils” or recognizing that her “wicked ways” will “always” be a part of her.
Indeed, the lyrics are very much imbued with a spiritual, or one may even say, giving some of the terminology utilized, religious undertone. But what it all boils down to is Lzzy philosophying that “we all play the sinner and the saint and the in-between”. Or as some people would put it more simply, no one is perfect. And in the narrator’s mind, that understanding has led to her concluding that therefore, perfection is not something to strive for. So she’s cool with being “sinful”, as Hale doesn’t feel that such a modus operandi actually makes her “evil”.

I dont like them using religious symbolism to show that “they’re ok with being imperfect” The overall outlook on some of the newer songs, if you don’t dive into them deeper, just shows a lot hate towards Christianity. I know that’s not really what the songs are about but that’s all anyone’s going to see if they don’t really look into the meanings. And for me as a Christian it makes it difficult to listen to these songs (referring to Wicked Ways and Back From the Dead) despite the fact that I love the sound of them so much. Honestly for BFTD, it’s just one line in particular where she says “So keep your savior, give me back my sins”. I know that Hale has said in an interview that these songs don’t particularly have anything to do with religion, but for me that line is just so obvious. 😖 I absolutely adore Halestorm. I’ve got tattoos inspired by them and everything, but as a Christian hearing some of the lyrics from their newer album, it makes me sad because I don’t want to sing or condone “always being sinful” and being proud of it. And Im not mad at them and I don’t hate the songs.. I actually love them. I just personally can’t listen to them which breaks my heart 💔😔
