In Ariana Grande’s “One More Time”, the narrator (Ariana) plays the role of someone in a broken romance, and admittedly it is ‘her fault’. In other words, she lied to her ex. How exactly she deceived him is never specified. However, the implication is that she cheated on him. And now she is reeling as a result of their breakup since he holds a very-special place in her heart.
Since then, her ex has apparently moved on with his life, as he seems to have a new girlfriend. But as aforementioned, Ariana still has strong feelings for him. In simpler terms, this song is based on her desire to spend “one last time”, as in one final night, with him. Afterwards, she ‘promises’ to ‘let him go’, as ultimately she just wants to feel the sensation of ‘waking up in his arms’.
Artists like Ariana Grande are known for releasing songs based on their real-life events. As such, fans have speculated that “One Last Time” is actually referencing relationships Ariana had with Australian entertainer Jai Brooks and English musician Nathan Sykes from 2012 to 2014.
As the story goes, Ariana was in a committed, publicly-acknowledged romance with Jai and cheated on him with Nathan. However, she was ultimately unimpressed by her new beau, with the relationship lasting only five months. As such, she eventually found herself back with Brooks, but their relationship completely dissolved soon afterwards also. Thus the implication is that in “One Last Time”, which was released in early 2015, Ariana is expressing her regret of cheating on Jai with Nathan and begging for reconciliation with the former. However, such has never been confirmed by Grande herself.
