A chicken tender, as you probably already know, is a type of finger food. However, this song is not about the dish itself. Rather this is one of the snacks which Dominic Fike tends to enjoy alongside his romantic interests. And what the lyrics are actually about is exactly that – the singer enjoying time with his romantic interest. This includes chillin’ in a hotel, watching TV, making love and ‘puffing’, with the latter likely being a reference to smoking grass.

The first time fans of Dominic Fike heard this song was during one of his live performances in September of 2019. And the track was officially released, by Columbia Records and a label called Sandy Boys, on 26 June 2020. Moreover it is the lead single from Dominic’s first full-length album, which remains unnamed at the time of the song’s release.
“Chicken Tender” was actually slated to be released at the beginning of June 2020. However, Dominic Fike delayed its issuance, apparently due to the George Floyd protests which were concurrently occurring.
Dominic wrote this song alongside its producer, J. Cruz, as well as P. NDL, S. Homaee and J. Wienner.
It’s definitely “bugs.” What do the bugs mean? My wife thinks the song is about bed bugs. I’m inclined to agree.
