“Danny Phantom” by Trippie Redd (ft. XXXTentacion)
This rap is pretty terse, with the song’s only actual verse being held down by the late XXXTentacion, who by this point has been dead for over three years.
According to Genius, this is actually the reworking of a song Trippie Redd originally came out with in June of 2018 – i.e. the same month in which XXXTentacion was murdered – called Ghost Busters.
Besides XXXTentacion and Trippie Redd, that particular song also features Quavo and Ski Mask the Slump God. The latter two rappers’ vocals are not present in Danny Phantom. So lyric wise Ghost Busters and Danny Phantom are almost identical, except that in the latter case the aforenoted artists’ verses have been omitted.
So with all of that in mind, we can postulate that Trippie released this track as a memorial to his dead homey, XXXTentacion.
Song’s Title (“Danny Phantom”)
As far as the title of this song goes, considering the artists at hand it’s easy to make the presumption that it is a reference to the Rolls-Royce Phantom. This is an extremely expensive car which tends to be somewhat of a favorite amongst rappers.
However, the automobile that is rather directly mentioned in the chorus, seemingly is a comparable vehicle, also made by Rolls-Royce, called the Ghost. But not that it really matters anyway, for the ultimate point being made is that the rappers are actually rich enough to afford such vehicles.
Meanwhile, the aforementioned verse basically features XXXTentacion graphically detailing his interactions with a certain romantic partner. And the intro is an excerpt of a news report where an unidentified fan of Trippie Redd’s went about vandalizing a car dealership in his name. And apparently the point being made is that the rapper does in fact possess such die-hard, may we also say wild admirers.
So at the end of the day, based on the singular verse of Danny Phantom, the conclusion would have to be that this is a sex song. But the chorus rather centers on possession of an expensive car(s) and doesn’t have anything, at least directly, to do with sex.
So again, it would seem that the main purpose of this track was to give XXXTentacion – a deceased rapper whose recorded content has perhaps been all used up by this time – some run on Trip at Knight.
