“Gone 2 Long” by Prettymuch

This is a love song in which the band is basically singing to a girl they miss. And they are taking the humble approach as in consistently acknowledging that they are suffering without her presence.  Moreover they are entreating her while she is away not to “give (her) heart away so easily”, which sounds like they are asking her not to entertain other love interests in their absence.

Yes, there are other communication options, such as FaceTime, available for them to keep in touch with this lady. However, chatting over the internet “is getting old”. What the boys instead desire is some good old-fashioned, face-to-fact interaction. And they appeal to homegirl to fulfill this longing since she knows that they “need” her and intend to “keep (her) around”.

So what this song basically amounts to is the singers expressing that they require the presence of their significant other while simultaneously being devoid of such, with no definitive timetable of when this issue will be resolved, as in when she will return. And in that regard, they want her to “promise (she) won’t be gone”, as in prolong her absence, as they already feel she has been “gone too long”.
