Lil Uzi Vert’s “Free Uzi” Lyrics Meaning

The title of this track is based on the well-publicized beef between Lil Uzi Vert and the record label he is signed under, Generation Now.  Reportedly this dispute has delayed the release of Uzi’s second album, and out of frustration earlier this year he announced his premature yet short-lived retirement.  Thus “Free Uzi” is the first track he has dropped in a hot minute.

Indeed even this song has officially been labeled as a leak, despite the fact that it was Uzi Vert himself who released it. Thus as alluded to earlier, the title of the song is based on his desire to be free from Generation Now. In fact Lil Uzi Vert has already more or less switched teams.

However, the song itself only mentions this dilemma briefly. Instead, it is primarily centered on Uzi’s intimate interactions with women and to a lesser extent his wealth and street code. Content-wise, it is a standard mainstream rap song, albeit one that is relatively-lengthy and done so masterfully, as in being an impressive display of Uzi Vert’s talents.

Overall, what can be gleaned from the track is that Uzi greatly enjoys his wealth. For instance, being able to afford expensive cars enables him to have fun with a myriad of women right upon meeting them.  And he really likes his interactions with women, with it again being the topic that dominates this song.

The references Uzi Vert gives to the beef he has with his label are done so tactfully, as in he never namedrops Don Cannon and DJ Drama – the two Generation Now executives he specifically has a tiff with – nor the label itself. However, listeners who are already privy to this quarrel will conclude that it is these men these bars are directed towards.
