“Love Me Back” by Jacob Sartorius

The addressee of “Love Me Back” is someone whom we can assume is close to the singer, in the platonic sense. However, he wants to take their relationship to the next level. But it can be said that he is afraid to approach her. More specifically yes, he does believe that she likes him also. Yet he also understands that he can be misreading her in that regard.

So the implication is that his emotions have now reached the point where he can no longer hold them in. Moreover he does not want to miss out on the opportunity to express how he truly feels. So in his apprehensiveness, he is asking her a theoretically question. And that is if he did come out and admit that he loves her, would she likewise respond by exclaiming that she ‘loves him back’?

Summary: Sartorius is caught in a dilemma in which, despite his apprehensiveness, he wants to transcend the friend zone with the addressee.
