Meaning of “HeMotions” by Juice WRLD

“HeMotions” is song which, in general, is about Juice WRLD’s inconsistent – if not primarily negative – emotional state. But more specifically, it is based on his relationship with a couple of females as well as his alleged drug abuse.

In the chorus, Juice claims that he is experiencing a fluctuating mind state. This is highlighted by him manifesting thoughts which are not particularly constructive. This is probably why in the second verse he threatens to shoot the new boyfriend of what seems to be his ex, even though in the previous he claims to have a sweetheart, which apparently is a different woman, that makes him happy.

Later in the song, Juice also claims that he isn’t a “drug addict” but rather a “love addict”.  This idea contrasts some of the other songs such as “Empty” presented on the album Death Race for Love, where he seems to express a strong emotional dependency on drinking and popping pills. However, in this track, he does give a shoutout to “Mary Jane” (weed) as a possible solution to help him quit hard drugging altogether.

In all, it’s a bit difficult to derive the intended meaning of “HeMotions”.  On one hand, it has been interpreted as a relatively-uplifting track in Juice WRLD’s catalog. However, with him making statements like “back on my bullsh*t, devil emoji”, it’s a bit challenging to interpret this song as being positive. Rather it seems to illustrate Juice’s volatile emotional state where in one instance he is appreciating the success, love and hope he has in life, and in the next he’s threatening to shoot somebody and more or less advocating substance use as a remedy to emotional pain. Overall though, it seems that he is indeed enjoying life, despite his mental changeability.

• On top of co-writing the song, Hit-Boy also produced it in its entirety.
• “HeMotions” was released formally on March 8, 2019. It is the third track on WRLD’s 2019 studio album, Death Race for Love. The record in question is the rapper’s second studio album.
• “HeMotions” wasn’t released as a single. The only singles from Death Race for Love were the songs: “Robbery” and fan favorite “Hear Me Calling“.
