“Off the Table” by Ariana Grande & The Weeknd

On “Off the Table”, the two vocalists are portraying the role of lovers or more specifically, as most illustrated by The Weeknd’s verse, exes. And the way the situation reads in its entirety is that they are soulmates. For even after The Weeknd has proven himself to be a habitually “toxic” partner, Ariana is still considering getting back with him. And this is because she is under the impression that she may never again find a love like the one they share. And such is basically the idea behind the title of this song.

So even though the male singer is more or less begging for another chance she wants to make sure, despite obviously still being in love, that this time around he won’t repeat the mistakes of the past.

Facts about “Off the Table”

This is Ariana Grande and The Weeknd’s second collaboration. The first is a 2014 track called Love Me Harder, which is recognized as the song which put the latter artist on the map.

The co-writers/co-producers of Off the Table are TBHits, Mr. Franks, Shintaro Yasuda and Travis Sayles. The Weeknd and Grande are also credited as writers.

This is part of Grande’s Positions album, which Republic Records put out on 30 October 2020.

No names are dropped in this song, nor has Ariana stated at the time of its release that it’s based on her real life. However, that will not stop certain analysts from still proclaiming that the narrative contained therein is indeed derived from her personal romantic history. And in that regard they have argued that Off the Table is premised on her past romance with the late Mac Miller (1992-2018). This is despite the fact that the verses quoted in this argument are obviously in regards to the female singer’s relationship with the male singer as opposed to someone who is forever lost or deceased.
