On “Positions”, Ariana Grande plays the role of a lady who was not really interested in falling in love. The insinuation, based on the first verse, is that she has past romantic experiences that did not end favorably. And does not want to run the risk of ‘history repeating’ itself, as in engaging in another relationship that ends in disappointment. However, she has found someone, that being the addressee, whom she is really feeling. Basically, the sentiment she is putting forth is that so long as he is “down” to commit to her, she is also ready to give her all to him. 

And that brings us to the title of the track. For what the word “positions” stands for within the context of this track is the vocalist’s readiness and willingness to play different roles, from the “kitchen” to the “bedroom”, in order to make her aforementioned lover happy. Or stated differently, she is willing to do whatever it takes in order to please this special person that she has found.

“Positions” was released at midnight on 23 October 2020. It marks Ariana’s first solo joint since her hit 2019 album, “Thank U, Next”.

This is considered to be the first single from an upcoming album Ari-Chan has been teasing to also drop during October of 2020. And as for the song itself, she first hinted its release via Instagram on 17 October 2020.

Could “Positions” be about Dalton Gomez?

It is very possible. And why? This is considering the song was written and released around the time she began dating Dalton.

The gossip and entertainment site later confirmed that Dalton was that mystery guy.

In an Instagram post shared to Ariana’s page on March 21, 2020, Gomez made a covert appearance touching the pop star’s pet dog without showing his face. However, fans noticed he was the one because of his tattoos. On March 25, TMZ, Page Six and People confirmed the details of Ariana’s relationship with Gomez stating that they had been in a relationship for some months, were happy and decided to quarantine together.
