“RUN” by Juice WRLD

Apparently the title of this song by Juice WRLD is based on the idea of an individual making an attempt to “run” from his or her “dark side”. What the “dark side” actually represents is not specified. But based on popular understanding of the term as well as Juice WRLD referencing “demons” and other parts of the track, it would likely be something tantamount to depression and a propensity to do bad things.  Also he seems to advocate the idea of taking “drugs”, in his particular case ‘Percocet’ and “syrup” (lean), in the name of being able to relax.

When considering “Run” in its entirety, it can be argued that the song is about feelings of anxiety, disenchantment and depression that Juice and others in his generations are experiencing. And the remedy he personally uses to overcome these sensations is illicit drug usage (which is a DANGEROUS thing to do).

Or another way to look at it is that the way WRLD bests depression is not via “money” nor women. And the way he fights off his “demons” is not with religion. Rather, he may perceive getting high as a means to achieve both of these goals. But ultimately, he also acknowledges that the “dark side” is not something a person can “hide” from, as in an ultimate sense futility or pessimism in his efforts to actually “run” from it.

This song features samples of vocals by a retired artist named Shiloh Dynasty, whose popularity rose dramatically due to her vocals being used in a similar fashion on a few songs by the late rapper XXXTentacion, whom Juice WRLD “looked up to”.

The particular song this track does sample in that regard is by Masked Man (featuring Shiloh Dynasty) and is entitled “Drowning My Sorrows” (2017).
