“Sometimes” by Juice WRLD

Considering that Juice WRLD passed away only a week after turning 21 years old, the world never got to witness his artistry truly grow. As such, all of the posthumous singles we have been treated to since have been pretty monotonous subject wise. For instance, this song (“Sometimes”) witnesses the rapper once again harping primarily on the topic of personal drug dependency.

He also mentions being persecuted by “demons” which, based on past WRLD pieces, we know is a poetic way of putting forth, more or less, that the vocalist is plagued by mental issues. And as standard in the Juice WRLD formula, there are also mentions of the narrator being in a troubled romantic relationship or what have you.

What does make this song slightly different though is that this appears to be a rare occasion upon which Juice acknowledges, even if only briefly, the prospect of being done in by opps. But more to the intended point is the vocalist illustrating that s**t is real in the ‘hood where he comes from. And all of the above culminates in the rapper being depressed, to the point where he “sometimes” seeks an escape from life, so to speak. So in traditional Juice WRLD fashion, he opts to turn back to drug abuse as a relief.

All in All

Ultimately, it can be deemed that the vocalist is caught up in a cycle. And as such he appears to be seeking empathy from the listeners by illustrating various ways in which he is stressed out to the point of being compelled to use drugs.

Summary

When faced in a constant low point, it can bring about depression and/or stress. If these situations go on without intervention, the temptation of using drugs could get too hard to resist. For that sliver of freedom away from the issues at hand, one can succumb into using drugs. Over time, larger doses may be needed to receive that ‘high’ level thus causing addiction.

The above is exactly what Juice WRLD is dealing with in the lyrics of “Sometimes”. He unfortunately finds himself in an unescapable web of depression and stress. This predicament encourages him to engage in substance abuse in the hope of finding some relief.
