“Taurus” by Machine Gun Kelly (ft. Naomi Wild)

“Taurus” has been described as being semi-autobiographical, as reportedly is the MGK-led movie it is derived from. But for the most part what we are dealing with here is standard Machine Gun Kelly fare, i.e. the lyrics primarily reflecting the vocalist having to contend with depression and other types of psychological maladies, such as hearing voices in his head.

MGK also gets a bit existential in “Taurus”, though in that regard it isn’t abundantly clear what he’s conclusively getting at beyond having some type of pessimism not only for the present but also the future. For example, the rapper puts forth that he’s “afraid of having kids”, with said fear being based on the likelihood of him proving to “be just like (his) parents”, who obviously were less than ideal.

And with that in mind it can also be said that he’s suffering from self-image issues. This is because at some point, he perceives himself to be “a monster” and what have you.

NOTE: Even though MGK expresses a lack of desire to have children in this song, he does already have one child, Casie Colson Baker, who came into the world in 2009.

Semi-autobiographical Lyrics

Concerning this piece being deemed semi-autobiographical, the latter half of the lengthy third verse in particular does read as if it does in part center on MGK’s come-up. And even in that sense, he can’t help but to harp on his inner demons also.

But ultimately, it seems that what he’s saying in that regard is that he was able to succeed despite possessing a number of issues.

So in a way, despite all of the negative self-assessments being relayed, “Taurus” may actually be deemed along the lines of being a song of encouragement, based on a listener’s perspective.

“Taurus”

Lastly, the title of this track is not mentioned in the lyrics. But Machine Gun Kelly was born on April 22nd (1990), thus putting him under the Taurus zodiac sign. So the logical deduction would be that the title is a reference to himself.

Machine Gun Kelly and “Taurus”

Machine Gun Kelly has been dating Megan Fox for a couple of years now, so perhaps it was inevitable that in the process he would go full Hollywood.

MGK already had notable acting experience prior to the two of them hooking up, but it would appear that his first lead role was in the 2021 film “The Last Son”. Afterwards, he also starred in a movie that came out earlier in 2022 called “Good Mourning”. And as for this song(“Taurus”), it is actually the title track to another flick that MGK leads, which came out in November of 2022.

The film’s soundtrack, which was put out through Bad Boy and Interscope, is officially titled “Taurus [From The Motion Picture Taurus]”. And as to be expected, MGK is the main artist featured holding down the album.

To further note, the co-vocalist on this song, a singer known as Naomi Wild, also has an acting role in Taurus. Naomi has also participated on a track with MGK in the past, that being 2019’s Glass House, i.e. the last single from “Hotel Diablo”.

Megan Fox also has a role in Taurus (the movies), as does up-and-coming NYC rapper Lil Tjay (who accordingly has a collaborative song, War, with MGK on the soundtrack).

Release Date and Credits for “Taurus”

This track was officially released on 23 November 2022, with the producers being Machine Gun Kelly’s right-hand men, BazeXX and SlimXX. And besides for the three of them, the other writers of this song are:

  • Naomi Wild
  • Bo Rande
  • Tobias Wilner
  • Kirstine Stubbe Teglbjærg

Bo Rande and Tobias Wilner are concurrently holding down an act known as Blue Foundation, and as with Kirstine Teglbjærg, they are from Denmark.

The reason this trio are credited as authors of “Taurus” is because it interpolates a Blue Foundation track they composed, which is 2007’s “Eyes on Fire”.

Something Noteworthy

It has been pointed out that this song marks a ‘return to rap’ for Machine Gun Kelly. That is to say that MGK established himself as a hip-hop artist before venturing over to rock music. But it can be said that he has been more successful with the latter, considering for instance that just a few days before this song was dropped, Machine Gun Kelly was once again named Favorite Rock Artist at the American Music Awards, as he was in 2021.

Fans’ Reactions

Fans shared that they felt the pain he was describing in his lyrics as they’ve been through similar situations. The track, which is named after MGK’s horoscope, has been like a saving grace as they’ve grown tired of fighting for themselves but it gave them the boost they much needed.

Others expressed that the artist has always followed his own path, regardless of what others say. They note that the lyrics in “Taurus” have solidified his legacy as they’re well put together. Furthermore, MGK’s ability to turn the negative remarks he’s constantly faced with into masterpieces such as this track, has left his fans praising him, calling him a “true artist”.
