“We Dem Boyz” by Wiz Khalifa

Getting right down to the nitty-gritty, making an assertion like “we dem boyz” would be equivalent to saying something like ‘we’re the sh-t’. Or put more plainly, it is a self-exalting comment, one that also implies that the “boys” being spoken of are the extremely self-confident, attention-grabbing type. 

So we are venturing forward under the presumption that what the lyrics of this song are dedicated to is describing how they are so.

Now one specific characteristic of “dem boyz” that is noted beforehand in the chorus is that they are boisterous. And as presented by Wiz Khalifa in the first verse, such a lifestyle is manifested by them visiting strip clubs for instance. And yes, the vocalist does enjoy having sex, with various types of women in fact. 

Moreover, as expected Wiz drops a healthy amount of references to weed, as well as one allusion to drinking liquor in the passage. So all of this would seemingly be indicative of the boyz’ wild modus operandi.

The second verse commences with Wiz Khalifa once again harping on the topic of women, a subject that, as stated earlier, he already gave considerable coverage to. But this time around the venue is more specifically a club, and the star rapper is commenting on how when he goes to such places all of the “hoes”, i.e. fast women, tend to sweat him. And yes, he does occasionally see one that he likes, a prerequisite being she has a ‘phat ass’.

Wiz then proceeds to compare himself to others in a favorable manner. For instance, he’s chillin’ in a “brand new car”, while conversely the ‘broke n–gas’ are so because they’re “lazy”. Thus the implication is that he possesses a hard work ethic, which contributes to his financial success. 

Then the rapper goes on to conclude the verse by once again speaking on “hoes”. He has a lot to say in this regard in just a couple of bars. But what it all boils down to is that he likes partying and hanging out with women, so long as they are the types that he is and the boyz are attracted to.

So conclusively we’ll say that in creating this song, Wiz went about putting one together that is meant to serve as an anthem more so than focusing on “dem boyz” per se. And that is what “We Dem Boyz” achieves, coming off as your standard party tune, i.e. one that espouses wild behavior, intoxication and getting close to women.
