“Why You Gotta Be Like That” by Scotty McCreery
“Why You Gotta Be Like That” is one of those kinds of songs, the type of which we have undoubtedly covered quite a few times in the past, in which the vocalist is admiring the beauty of his significant other.
And as with the other pieces that fall into this category, it is premised on the two of planning an evening out on the town together. But lo and behind, as she descends down the staircase in her evening attire, the addressee proves stunningly beautiful in the eyes of the vocalist. Indeed in this case, he finds it impossible to keep his hands off of her.
So even though they were scheduled to arrive at their destination, a party, at around 8:00, by the time all is said and done they don’t get there until after 10:00, if you know what Scotty means.
Scotty McCreery is a married man, having wed his wife, Gabi Dugal, in 2018. Moreover, he is recognized as being one of the more devout Christians in the game, even if his songs such as this one aren’t religious in nature. So this isn’t one of those love songs in which it is up to us, the audience, to try to figure out whether the vocalist is singing about his wife or not. And why? Simply because Scotty has already stated that this piece is in fact based on an evening he shared with Gabi.
The Title (“Why You Gotta Be Like That”)
And as far as the title goes, what it would more formally translate to is something like ‘why do you have to be so beautiful’? Simply put, as explained above it was not the vocalist’s original intent to pounce on the addressee like that. But it’s as if she looks so good to him that, with them already being a couple and all, he didn’t really have a choice.

This track came out on 16 July 2021, a couple of months in advance of the album it is featured on, “Same Truck”. And the label behind this project is called Triple Tigers.
But for whatever reason, it would appear that “Why You Gotta Be Like That” is not officially classified as a single, just a song that was released as sorta of a teaser in advance of the aforementioned album.
